Favorite Products for Nude Lips! ♥

IMG_1936.JPG

Hello and happy March everyone! I am so, so happy to be sharing my thoughts on my favorite nude lipsticks today - because all I’ve been wearing for the past month are nudes! As ridiculous as this may sound, before this month, I didn't really have a nude lipstick that I considered my "everyday" lipstick let alone a collection of easy-to-wear nude shades. I love trying out new lipsticks so much that I never really settle on one shade before I find another one that I like better Recently, however, I've found that while I can cycle through bright lipsticks on the weekends, they're not always practical when it comes to the workweek! Plus, if I’m being honest with myself, wearing a nude lipstick simplifies things so much more - way less worrying about lipstick on my teeth or eating with lipstick on! So without further ado, my favorite nude lip products!

Lord and Berry Lipliner in 3035 Nude: I’ve mentioned this product in a previous post before, but it still holds true - this lipliner by Lord & Berry is one of my all-time favorite lipliners! It’s a wonderful warm brown lipliner that adds a little bit of warm color to the lips but still looks incredibly natural. My only gripe is that I wish it would last longer! Since I use it all over the lips (instead of actually lining the lips) and it’s a product that requires sharpening, a lot of times the product gets used up way too quickly.

Milani Color Statement Lipliner in Spice: Since the Lord & Berry lipliner I just mentioned above runs at around $18 per liner, I’ve been on the hunt for a more affordable dupe! The closest liner I have found is the Milani Color Statement Lipliner in Spice. It typically runs between $3-$4 which is a much more affordable price point for a comparable product! Although this shade is not an exact dupe for the 3035 Lord & Berry liner (I think it’s a tad more cool toned), for the way lower price, I’m happy 😃

Elf Matte Lipstick in Praline: This lipstick from Elf has been my favorite on-the-go lipstick! It’s extremely affordable ($3 whoo!) and is a pretty close match for my natural lip color so it’s been so nice to have this lipstick handy for long days when I need a refresh or just floating around in my bag in case I have a lipstick emergency! Plus, since it’s so affordable, I have quite a few on hand just in case I lose one!

TheBalm Meet Matte Hughes in Committed: I actually received this in an ipsy bag way long ago (Ipsy: October 2015) but didn’t fully appreciate until now (almost a year and a half later!). I love this shade because it’s a little on the pink side of things, but not so pink that it doesn’t still count as a nude shade. It’s extremely wearable but gives off those just-came-inside-after-a-frolick-in-the-snow kind of pinky vibes 😃

Colour Pop Ultra Satin Lip in Magic Wand ♥

Last but certainly not least, this color pop ultra satin lip shade has lived in every single purse I own for the past month!  During the holidays, I purchased the Colour Pop On a Whim mini ultra satin lip set (Review: Here) and fell in love with the Magic Wand shade! While I'd originally gone on a Colour Pop binge with the intention of trying out the ultra matte formula, I actually ended up loving the formula of the satin lipsticks much more than the mattes. I loved this particular shade so much that I now have not one, not two, but three of this lipstick because obviously, I need one for each of my purses, too 😛

What I love about this shade is that it’s very muted and evens out the lips nicely - which makes the whole look feel more put together and allows the focus of the look to be on the eyes. Nothing too crazy or fancy - just a more put together, neutral look! I want to say that this shade is a "my lips but better" kind of shade but if I’m being honest with myself, my lips look nothing like this shade (my lips are naturally a more purple-y tone). The reason this shade falls into that category is because it looks like a shade that could naturally go with my face but actually goes with my face a lot better than my actual lips do. Whew, that was a mouthful!

The thing I love about all of these lip products is that while they are all nudes, there is still a lot of variety in the color and tone of each product! They are all extremely wearable and have made my everyday make-up routine much simpler! While these nude lip products have been amazing for me, however, a tip I have for buying nude lip products is that if you’re looking for a good nude shade, look for suggestions from bloggers who have skin tones similar to yours. I cannot stress this enough! I have made this mistake time and time again by buying a nude lip product that looks beautiful on someone else only to find that it looks absolutely atrocious on my skin tone! 😛

Have you tried any of these nude lip products? Which ones are your favorites? Are there any other nude lipsticks you think I should try? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Style By Kenlee: Accessory Box Review ☆

This blog post is in partnership with Style By Kenlee. Style By Kenlee sent me a product for review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Whew! It's been a while since I wrote a review of a subscription box that wasn't a PopSugar Box ( I might be a little bit partial!) - but I'm very happy to be sharing my experience with the Style By Kenlee accessory box since I'm always looking to try out new subscriptions! The great thing about subscription boxes is that they really open up your eyes to different products that you might not normally try on your own!

Style By Kenlee reached out to me a couple of months ago to collaborate on a review of their box and as an avid lover of all things subscription boxes, I was excited to give their box a try! Style By Kenlee is a jewelry and accessory subscription box that sends you three individual accessories each month for $20.00/month. They sent me their January box, which included three pieces: a necklace, bracelet and a pair of earrings.

IMG_1531.JPG

Tree Necklace: This necklace is made of a beautiful tree pendant and a leather strap that goes around the neck. For me, this necklace was definitely a challenge to style as it's not something that goes well with my existing wardrobe, however, I got a little creative and actually wore it in my most recent outfit post (Beanies + Layers). My favorite part about this necklace is that the strap is adjustable so you can wear it at a variety of different lengths!

Turquoise Bracelet: This piece was a simple bracelet with three turquoise beads as the focus. I tend to layer my bracelets so I’m really excited to incorporate this bracelet into my everyday accessories. I always have a leather fitbit band on and the brown/turquoise of this bracelet goes quite well with it!

Dandelion Fluff Earrings: For me, these earrings were the star of the box! Each earring is made up of a little clear bulb with two little dandelion fluffs (does anyone know what these are actually called?) inside them. I've been absolutely loving these because I find them to be the perfect combination of cool/quirky yet also extremely wearable.

One thing I really would have loved to see, however, is a little card describing the different pieces and where they came from! Since I'm not sure where each of the pieces came from, I've just ended up naming them based on what they look like :P

Overall, I enjoyed the pieces in the January Style By Kenlee box and will definitely be incorporating both the earrings and the bracelet into my everyday accessories! The necklace was a little bit outside of my style comfort zone and while I don't think it was the best fit for my personal style, it did encourage me to think outside the box and gave me the style inspiration I needed to pull some lesser used pieces out of my wardrobe! As with all subscription boxes, your experience with each individual box may vary depending on what items are included in each month. I took a look at the Style By Kenlee website and definitely think that there are some pieces in other boxes that I might have enjoyed more!

While I love subscription boxes, I am also very much a bargain shopper! I only really invest in a subscription box if I think that it consistently delivers a huge amount of value and since I tend to shop for accessories pretty regularly on my own, I'm not sure that this box is something that I feel I would need given the price point ($20.00/box). While I love the idea of trendy pieces, given my current status as a working professional with no children, I have a decent amount of time to go searching for bargain accessories on my own! If you are a busy mom, however, or even someone who has a busy work schedule and you can't find the time to go shopping for new pieces, I definitely think that this kind of box would be worth the investment! Plus, if you are looking to support two inspiring moms & entrepreneurs, this box is the way to go! :)

When it comes to the world of clothing - a lot of times, I find myself in a rut of wearing the same combinations over and over again simply because they're safe. Running around trying to catch a bus in the mornings doesn't always leave enough time to be creative with wardrobe choices! I'm starting out a new habit of planning my outfits the Sunday night before each new workweek and this is one of layered combinations I came up with last week :) It's a contrast from my typical safe choices of sweaters and scarves but I am really loving how different it is!

If you're looking for ways to get out of a style rut, I think planning ahead of time always helps! I even purchased adorable fuzzy hangers and labeled each one with a day of the week so that I can hang each day's outfit on the corresponding hanger. It has really helped me be more creative because I can visually see each outfit hanging in front of me :) Do you pre-plan your outfits for the week? What has worked for you? Let me know in the comments!
