Good morning, everyone! I’m excited to be sharing my thoughts on the winter PopSugar Must Have and FabFitFun boxes today :) If you’re curious about how these two quarterly boxes compare to one another, stay tuned!

PopSugar Must Have

The PopSugar Must Have box is a $75/box quarterly subscription that includes full-size fashion, beauty, fitness, and lifestyle items. This summer’s box focused on products that will help you unwind and relax!

Box Faves:

  • Ellia Essential Oil Roll-on: I was so excited to receive this product because I’ve been exploring essential oils as a way to reduce anxiety. Every since starting graduate school, I’ve noticed my anxiety flaring up and using essential oils is one way I’m trying to stop anxiety in its tracks! This on-the-go roller will make bringing my essential oils around so much easier!

  • Kate Spade Calendar: I’m a little obsessed with all things planner, calendar, and organization related. This Kate Spade calendar is classy and is working its magic bringing a little liveliness to my boring office desk!

Box Flops:

  • Honestly? I don’t have any particular flops to share because I wasn’t really thrilled with anything else in the box! While the rest of the box included some stunning products, most of it was stuff I didn’t really feel like I needed or wanted!

FabFitFun:

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that sends full-size versions of the seasons top fitness, fashion, beauty, and wellness products. Each box is about $50 if you subscribe month-to-month and slightly less if you select an annual subscription.

Box Faves:

  • Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick: Hands down my favorite of the box :) I love a good lipstick and Bite does an amazing lipstick. Every lipstick I have from Bite has easily become a favorite because of their amazing formula (perfect mix between moisturizing + decent staying power)!

  • Bearpaw Headband and Glove Duo: I didn't think this was going to be one of my favorites but I've continued to reach for this headband and glove duo over and over again!

Box Flops:

  • Anthropolie x Mer-Sea Body Cream: I really wanted to like this body cream, but the scent was just too much for me - I swear you can smell it from 2 rooms over if I put even a tiny bit on my hands!

  • Thrive Causemetics Eye Brightener: This was a flop for me because I already own this product and hardly *ever* use it! Although the formula of the product goes on really smoothly, this eye brightener doesn't really show up much on my skin, so I think I'll be gifting it to someone else!

The winner: FabFitFun

This season, there was a clear winner for me - so much so that I actually cancelled my subscription for the must have box! (sorry popsugar!). As much as I used to love the PopSugar box, I’ve found that the new quarterly box format really wasn’t for me. Although the products they select are now higher quality and always nice to have, I’ve found that the box no longer really fits my life at the moment. I’m at a point in my life where I’m trying to be more intentional about the things I buy and I’ve found that most of the products I receive from my PopSugar box don’t really see much use :( so unfortunately, you won’t see any more PopSugar reviews from me (for now!).

I will, however, be continuing my subscription to FabFitFun! I still find myself using most of my FabFitFun products and love how it seems to predict my needs and interests well! I think a huge part of this is the fact that, as an annual subscriber, I'm able to choose a lot of what I receive in the box. Although this does mean I'm not *as* surprised when I receive the items, it's still a surprise getting to see what items I can choose from! I love being able to choose what I receive because oftentimes, I'll go for an item that I really need or one that I don't already have!

What did you think of your subscription boxes this month? Do you prefer PopSugar or FabFitFun? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

PopSugar Must Have: September 2017

Untitled Design 2.png

The PopSugar Must Have box is a monthly subscription ($40/month or less if you make a 3, 6, or year long commitment)  that sends subscribers full-size versions of the season's must-have beauty, fashion, and home products. I’ve subscribed to a lot of boxes in my time and the PopSugar Must Have box is my all-time favorite by a mile! If you’re looking for a box that gives you a ton of value and awesome products, this is the box for you!

Hudson + Bleecker: Bonjour Smartphone Wallet in Dusty Rose | Retail $47

I was so excited to see this little wallet in my PopSugar box this month! Although I am not the biggest fan of the snakeskin pattern, I do love the millennial pink color and always love receiving unique items like this in my PopSugar boxes. One of the areas where PopSugar excels is including items that I don’t often see appear in other subscription boxes. It’s extremely common to receive things like notebooks and candles in subscription boxes and while I love those kinds of products, PopSugar does a great job of selecting products that I wouldn’t expect to receive in a subscription box, this wallet being one of them!

Figs & Rouge: Hydra Prime Light Reflective Brightening Primer & Illuminator | Retail $45

One of my favorite things about PopSugar boxes? Everything is full-size! Everyone needs primer, no matter their skin tone or skin type so I love that PopSugar decided to throw in a full-size primer for this month! (Especially since I’m running a little low on primer right now HA). Although this primer is a little too shimmery for my taste (I tend to prefer all things matte), I’ll definitely still get tons of use out of it on the days that I decide to go for a more dewy look.

Lipstick Queen: Black Lace Rabbit Cream Blush | Retail $25

My first reaction to this blush: “WOAH”. This blush from Lipstick Queen is black in the packaging but works with your skin’s PH to create a blush shade that is meant to work with your skin tone! While I love the idea of this product, I’m a little mixed when it comes to products that claim to create personalized shades. PopSugar previously included a lipstick from this same brand that also claimed to do the same thing and while the idea is cool, I didn’t think the lipstick shade went well with my skin tone at all. This blush turns out to be a pretty purple-y pink on my skin but my main problem with the product is that I have some discoloration spots on my skin and it seems like the blush darkens the discoloration even more 😔 I’ll definitely continue to play around with this blush to see if I can figure out a way to prevent this, but until I can figure this one out, it’s not one of my favorite blushes.

Buji Baja by Hat Attack: Coco Flower Pin | Retail $17

According to PopSugar this flower pin can be attached to coats, blouses, purses, or even bracelets! Honestly, the whole flower pin trend probably isn’t something I’ll be sporting in full force, but I threw this little pin on my backpack and have been loving the way it adds a bit of flair to my relatively boring bag 😃

IMG_4795.JPG

Richer Poorer: Wool Striped Nora Sock | Retail $22

These wool socks are knee high and perfect for wearing underneath fall boots. I’m not one of those people who gets super excited about receiving socks, but I recognize that they’re a necessity of life so I will never say no to another pair! I like that they’re a nice neutral black/gray striped color so that they can match just about any pair of boots I decide to throw on.

IMG_4793.JPG

Pipsnacks: Kettle Pipcorn | Retail $4.99

This kettle popcorn from Pipsnacks is non-GMO, gluten-free, and (the best part) it’s miniature! Hence the name “pipcorn”! I don’t have any dietary restrictions and don’t pay too much attention to the healthy-ness of the snacks I buy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate a snack that tastes good and is good for you. Warning: Keep away from hungry pets if you don’t want to come back to a chubby cat and an empty popcorn bag 😃

IMG_4791.JPG

I was actually really surprised that this month’s box wasn’t more fall themed (although I assume that’ll be coming in the near future!). In my experience with subscription boxes, they always take full advantage of seasonal changes and love to feature anything pumpkin-y and candle-related in fall months. My favorite product of this month was definitely the Pipcorn! I never realized that I wanted my popcorn to be smaller, but now that I’ve tried this itty bitty popcorn, I’m not sure how I’ll go back to eating full-size popcorn! Although this definitely wasn’t one of my favorite PopSugar boxes, nothing in the box was a complete flop for me and I will still get use out of all of them! What did you think of your September subscription boxes? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

PopSugar Must Have: August 2017

IMG_2169.JPG

This month’s subscription box was all about celebration since the PopSugar Must Have box is celebrating its 5th year curating boxes!

Pastel: Cheers Lacquered Tray | Retail $28

This is the prettiest little tray - that ended up being a lot bigger than I thought it would be! It’s almost the size of a standard piece of paper which I actually love! Most of my catchalls are about the size of my palm and with how much I throw in them, they get filled pretty quickly. I think this one’s going to end up on my coffee table as that’s where all of my things normally end up!

First Aid Beauty: 5 in 1 Bouncy Mask | Retail $38

I’ve never tried anything from First Aid Beauty before so I was really excited to receive this product! It’s a mask that is meant to brighten and firm skin after 10 minutes of use. I’m excited to try it and get my first taste of the First Aid Beauty line!

IMG_2175.JPG

Dogeared: Friendship Bracelet with Small Open Hear | Retail $34

I absolutely loved receiving this little bracelet in my box this month! It’s dainty and super easy to wear. My only gripe is that it’s listed as retailing for $34. Given that I received it as a part of my subscription, this price tag usually doesn’t matter to me but this friendship bracelet, while cute, is extremely simple and even if it’s retailed at $34 I do not think it’s worth that much.

IMG_2171.JPG

Meri Meri: Gold Glitter Candles | Retail $7.50

My family is pretty small and practical so we’re really only celebrating birthdays a couple of times year, and when we do celebrate birthdays, we don’t often go through the hassle of putting candles in a cake 😛 As a result, this is kind of a useful product for me - but I can appreciate the fact that it fits in with the “birthday” theme and who doesn’t love glitter! 😀

IMG_2174.JPG

Fringe Studio: Free Spirit Journal | Retail $16

This was my favorite item of the August box! I love, love, love receiving stationary related products in my subscription box and this beautiful notebook will be perfect for some fall to-do lists! It’s also a gorgeous rose gold - a color I’ve been loving over the past year!

IMG_2172.JPG

Goodie Girl Cookies: Chocolate Chunk | Retail $2.95

I’ve tried a couple of not so great gluten-free desserts before so I had pretty low expectations for these cookies, but they were actually delicious! So much so that I pretty much nommed them all down in one sitting! 😛 (not recommended).  They’re definitely not as fluffy or buttery as normal chocolate cookies are, but hey, they’re gluten-free so they’re never going to be exactly like their full-of-gluten counterparts!

IMG_2166.JPG

Shoptiques: $25 Gift Card

I’m usually on the fence when it comes to gift cards in subscription boxes but I was pleasantly surprised by this one! Oftentimes, the gift card given isn’t even enough to cover a single product so I don’t end up purchasing anything and the gift card just gathers dust instead. Instead, the Shoptiques website had a ton of very affordable stuff that included all kinds of accessories, clothing, and decor. I ended up putting $50 worth of accessories in my cart - which I only ended up paying $25 for, thanks to this gift card! 😃

IMG_2168.JPG

Overall, I was very happy with this month’s PopSugar! I loved the happy, celebratory theme of the box and will be using most of the products in my day-to-day life. What did you think of your August PopSugar Must Have box?
