SmartFX: Smartlash Eyelash Enhancer - Full-Size $29.95

Box Faves

  • Avene Thermal Spring Water: I'm pretty sure I've raved about this on many a blog post but I have an unhealthy obsession with this product. I'm not sure that it's actually doing anything for me, but there's something about the way it sprays so evenly on the face that is really cooling and refreshing. It even helps to calm my anxiety sometimes so I'd highly recommend checking it out (or just a facial mist in general) if you've never tried it before!

  • Klorane Shampoo with Mango Butter: THIS y'all, is why I'm subscribed to an obscene number of subscription boxes. Finding products like this. This shampoo smells absolutely amazing and the smell lasts forever in my hair such that I can pretty much smell it the entire rest of the day. I'm in love. Brb while I buy 10 more on amazon :)

Box Flops

  • HUM Nutrition Daily Cleanse Supplements: Again, this is just a personal preference, but I'm not big on beauty supplements. Maybe it's something I'll get into in the future but every time I receive a beauty supplement, I typically gift it or it simply sits in my kitchen cabinet for months!

I am always so impressed by the value of the BeautyFix boxes. If you are a skincare junkie like I am, you really cannot go wrong with the BeautyFix boxes. Through these boxes Iโ€™ve been introduced to tons of new brands and products that Iโ€™ve really enjoyed and I always feel like iโ€™m getting such a great deal on products that are oftentimes high-end and therefore, much more expensive than the $25 price tag of the BeautyFix box!

What did you think of your subscription boxes this month? Are there any others you think I should try? I'd love to hear from you!

BeautyFix Review: October & November 2018

Hello, friends! Itโ€™s been a minute since I posted over on the blog and Iโ€™ve missed it so, so much. Grad school is in a word - insane- and it has been a huge wake up call for me to have deadlines, and presentations, and papers all over again! I guess thatโ€™s what happens when you work for 3 years and forget what itโ€™s like to have homework :P

Anyway, enough of my ramblings - what better way to get back into blogging than a little review of my favorite subscription box! BeautyFix is a monthly skincare, makeup, and haircare subscription box created by Dermstore. A monthly subscription is $24.95 per box and a one-time box purchase is $34.95. Most items in the box are either full or deluxe sample size products.

November 2018

November Box Faves:

  • Lancer: Omega Hydrate Oil - Iโ€™ve been loving facial oils for a while now and they can be quite expensive. Although a single bottle can last you a while (since youโ€™re really only using 2-5 drops at a time, itโ€™s still a tough pill to swallow when a single bottle can set you back $50+! This hydrating oil is a full-size product and since it goes for $75 normally, this thing pays for the entire box three times over!

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess - Iโ€™m a big fan of Tarte products and honestly havenโ€™t disliked a single product Iโ€™ve tried from them! Iโ€™ve used this bronzer a handful of times and love that thereโ€™s a bit of shimmer in it but not enough that it draws a ton of attention.

November Box Flops:

  • I donโ€™t have any particular flops this month as it was a pretty good month product-wise, however, it was really apparent to me that the box had way fewer products than Iโ€™m used to with BeautyFix. Although this might be a function of the fact that the full-size product this month has a really high retail price, this monthโ€™s box was noticeably smaller quantity wise than previous months.

October Box Faves:

  • Sanitas Skincare: Lemon Cream Scrub - I am a huge, huge fan of the Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasian products, so my standards are abnormally high when it comes to exfoliating products, however, I was super impressed by this scrub! It smells amazing and I would argue is pretty close in quality to the fine exfoliating experience you get from the Dr. Brandt line for less cost.

  • Alterna Anti-Frizz Dry Oil Mist - I was also thoroughly impressed with this dry oil mist! Normally, the oils I use on my hair tend to weigh it down just a little bit even if theyโ€™re super light, but this dry oil mist doesnโ€™t feel heavy at all and achieves the same smoothing effect.

October Box Flops:

  • Rituals: The Ritual of Dao Balancing Foam Shower Gel - I didnโ€™t particularly love the scent of this shower gel which made it just okay for me. While I like the idea of a foaming shower gel I actually found it difficult to get the foam out of the pump! Maybe it was just the bottle I received, but unfortunately combined with the meh scent, this will definitely not be a re-buy for me.

  • Glytone: Ultra Softening Heel and Elbow Cream - The instructions for this product tell you to put on the cream, leave it on several minutes, and then to wash it off. I think this can be a bit misleading since itโ€™s labeled a cream, rather than some sort of exfoliant. Plus, at least for me, the cream really burned while it was on my skin and even a bit after Iโ€™d already rinsed it off. This might be a good product for people who need an intense exfoliant for heels or elbows, but it was too much for my skin.

I hope you enjoyed this little BeautyFix review! Let me know if there are any other beauty boxes youโ€™d like to see me try or any products you want to hear more about!

Box Faves:

  • Avene Thermal Spring Water! I about jumped for joy when I saw this one in the box. Funnily enough, it was already in my shopping cart on a different website so my BeautyFix subscription box saved me from having to purchase this on my own! What I love about the Avene hydrating mist is that it comes out in a very thin mist and has almost no scent to it (I've had mixed experiences with scented hydrating mists) which makes it feel especially luxurious and hydrating - highly recommend!
  • R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo - Another tried and true product that I was about to re-purchase myself, this dry shampoo is by far the best dry shampoo I've ever tried. A lot of dry shampoos leave a weird sticky residue on my hair but this one is the first one I've tried that really leaves my hair feeling just as light and dry as it was before I applied the dry shampoo. Another one of my favorites (albeit a little on the pricey side!).
  • Glo Skin Beauty Suede Matte Crayon - Although I wish the color was a little on the nude-er side, this crayon went on evenly, had great staying power, and even had a nice minty feel to it - such a nice surprise! I'll definitely be keeping this one in my bag!
  • Bioderma Sensibio H20 - This is another tried and true one for me (there were a lot of them in this month's box). The bioderma micellar water might be one of my all-time favorite micellar waters. It feels super light but does an absolute killer job taking off make-up. It's way more effective than I initially expected and I've loved it ever since! Although it tends to have a slightly higher price point than other micellar waters out there, I think it's absolutely worth the price difference for how effective this micellar water is.

Box Flops:

  • MD Solar Sciences Mineral Cream - I've received this product before and unfortunately, it is a huge flop for me. I'm not sure if I'm receiving especially oily samples or what, but this mineral cream has a ton of oil in it that starts to separate if you don't mix up the product. Since I'm already prone to oiliness on my T-zone, it just feels counterintuitive to put this on my face - sorry!
  • Raw Spirit Eau De Parfum - The scent I received just was NOT for me. I'm always wary of receiving perfumes in subscription boxes and this is why! They are such a personal thing (and I tend to be so picky about scents) that I find myself chucking or gifting most of my perfume samples :(

This month's BeautyFix box was an absolute slam dunk for me! I was excited about trying nearly all of the products and many of them were already some of my favorites! Usually, I'm just on the fence about receiving products again but most of the repeat products I received this month were items that I absolutely loved from previous boxes! It's clear that many subscription boxes have a strong sunscreen theme in the summer months and although they don't necessarily excite me, I have to admit that sunscreen based products are extremely useful and have saved me a ton of money over the years!

What did you think of your subscription boxes this month? Any other ones you think I should try? I'd love to know!
